Nutrient Breakdown:

Eggs:

  • 64% fat (mostly in the yolk), 34% protein, 2% carbs
  • Eating eggs before a round of golf can improve levels of satiety hormones, reducing levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin so you stay full longer throughout the round
  • Cholesterol is the building block of all metabolism controlling hormones, supporting cell membranes for proper functioning, essential for brain function as cholesterol surrounds nerve cells (Fun fact: the human brain has highest concentration of cholesterol than any other organ in the body)
  • It’s important to note cholesterol in food isn’t the same thing as cholesterol that’s in your blood
  • Great source of Vitamin B12, choline, zinc, and Vitamin D (influences processes related to the immune system and fat loss)

Chorizo:

  • A Good Source of B Vitamins and is particularly high in vitamin B1 and vitamin B12. B vitamins play a crucial role in energy production, and they help to produce energy from the food we eat
  • High In Protein. Chorizo supplies more than 30 grams of protein in just 8 oz of chorizo. Protein is essential for the golfer to eat post-round to replenish their muscles so the body can build back up the muscles using protein in the diet. If the amino acid pool is low (animal-based proteins not consumed) body will use muscle mass as fuel
  • Chorizo is considered a complete protein since it contains the most bioavailable quantities of all eight essential amino acids
  • Chorizo contains probiotics in the form of lactobacillus bacteria. Probiotics like lactobacillus are thought to have benefits for gastrointestinal health.
